November in New York City Public Schools: Monday's Mark Twain Test Deadline, Thursday Conferences and a Remote Election Day
November opens with a deadline, not a day off: registration for Mark Twain I.S. 239 testing and the District 21 Talent Tests closes Monday, November 2. Then comes the first remote Election Day in the system's history, two rounds of parent-teacher conferences and the Thanksgiving closure.

The first date in November belongs to families thinking about next year. Monday, November 2 is the last day to register for Mark Twain I.S. 239 testing and for the District 21 Talent Tests, New York City Public Schools says in its November guide for families — the registration runs through MySchools, and Monday is the end of the window.
Tuesday is the month's landmark: on Election Day, November 3, school will be in session remotely for all students, for the very first time. It is a school day, not a day off — which makes Monday night the preparation night. The system's family update asks parents to make sure their child has a working, internet-connected device and can sign in to their NYCPS Student Account before Tuesday, with login help at SelfService.schools.nyc or through the school.
The conferences follow immediately. On Thursday, November 5, elementary schools and Pre-K centers hold afternoon and evening parent-teacher conferences, and students in those schools are dismissed three hours early. Middle schools and District 75 schools hold their conferences a week later, on Thursday, November 12.
The month's closures are the familiar ones: schools are closed on Wednesday, November 11 for Veterans Day, and on Thursday and Friday, November 26-27, for the Thanksgiving recess. November in this system is a short month with a long list — and it starts Monday, with a registration deadline that will not wait for the election to be over.
