New York Overnight: Clear and Cold, Down to 38 Degrees by Marathon Morning
Halloween night is ending clear and cold in New York City — 47.7 degrees and falling at the last feed check, on the way to a Sunday low of 38.1, the coldest reading of the weekend, just as marathon runners head for Staten Island.

The cold is arriving on schedule. The station's weather feed put New York City at 47.7 degrees and clear late Saturday night, feeling like 41.7, with no precipitation — the tail end of a Halloween day that topped out at 61 degrees, stayed dry from the trick-or-treat hours through the Village Halloween Parade, and is now cooling steadily toward morning.
Sunday's low on the feed is 38.1 degrees, the coldest reading of the weekend stretch, under overcast skies (the feed's code 3) with a high of 60.6 and a precipitation probability of just 1. That is the morning the TCS New York City Marathon runs: runners waiting in the start villages at Fort Wadsworth before the 8 a.m. wheelchair starts and the 9:10 first wave will feel every degree of that 38, and spectators lining Fifth Avenue and Central Park South should dress for a winter morning, not a fall one.
The warm-up begins as soon as the race ends. Monday recovers to a high of 64.5 with a low of 44, and Tuesday — Election Day — reaches 65 degrees with a low of 53.7 and no precipitation in the feed's numbers, a mild, dry day for the walk to the polls.
One clock note rides with the cold: daylight saving time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, so the night is an hour longer than usual. Runners, voters and everyone setting an alarm for a pre-dawn ferry get that hour back — the feed's 38-degree morning arrives an hour later than the clock on the wall tonight would suggest.
