Last Day to Vote? In New York City There Is No Voting Monday — but One Deadline Does End Today

Searches for 'last day to vote' are spiking, and the honest answer for New York City is two-part: nobody votes today, because early voting ended Sunday — but Monday, November 2 is the last day to apply in person for a mail ballot, and the election itself is Tuesday.

Last Day to Vote? In New York City There Is No Voting Monday — but One Deadline Does End Today (New York City Gotham News)

It is the second-most-searched phrase in the United States this morning, and it contains a trap: anyone searching 'last day to vote' in New York City on Monday will not find a polling place open, because there is no voting in the city today. Early voting ended on Sunday, November 1, and Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, when polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 9 p.m.

What Monday does hold is the last deadline of the cycle that a voter can still act on in person. November 2 is the final day to apply in person for an early mail or absentee ballot at a Board of Elections office, according to NYC311's 2026 general election calendar and NYC Votes, which lists the in-person mail ballot request deadline as Monday, November 2, 2026. A ballot obtained that way must still be postmarked by Election Day, November 3, or delivered in person by the close of polls that night.

For the far larger group who will vote in person on Tuesday, the rules that matter are the ones NYC Votes publishes: you must vote at your assigned Election Day poll site — which can differ from your early voting site — polls run 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., and if you are a registered voter standing in line by 9 p.m., you can still cast a ballot.

So the calendar, plainly: Monday is for paperwork, Tuesday is for voting. The city's full Election Day guide — poll-site lookup, what is on the ballot, and the affidavit-ballot rule if your name is missing from the book — is in this newsroom's earlier file, and the Board of Elections hotline, 1-866-VOTE-NYC, is the city's own last check before you leave home.
