Early Voting in New York City Ends Sunday: Last Day, Hours and What Happens Monday

New York City's early voting window closes on Sunday. The Board of Elections schedule, published through NYC Votes, lists Sunday, November 1 as the last of nine early voting days, with every city early voting site open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the same hours as Saturday.

Two rules matter more on the last day than any other. Early voters must vote at their assigned early voting site — the site tied to their home address — and that site may be different from their usual Election Day poll site, so the Board urges voters to check their site before they travel. And there is no catch-up day: in-person early voting does not run on Monday, November 2, so a voter who misses Sunday's 5 p.m. close waits for Election Day.

Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, when polls across the city are open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., and any registered voter in line by 9 p.m. may cast a ballot. One deadline does land on Monday: voters may still apply in person for an early mail or absentee ballot at a Board of Elections office through November 2.

The city's last day arrives inside a national surge. Reuters reported Saturday that more than 49 million Americans had already cast early ballots, a record for a midterm election according to the University of Florida's Election Lab, up from nearly 46 million early ballots before Election Day in the 2022 midterms. How many of New York City's own voters use the final Sunday will be part of the turnout story the city tells on Tuesday.
