John Washington III, a candidate for president in 2028, says the political system needs to be exposed, and he is asking a specific set of questions about how candidates are chosen for public attention. "Who decides who gets put in front of the cameras? Who gets the money, the endorsements, the publicity?" he wrote.

John Washington III argued that independent voices are pushed out while their ideas are taken and handed to chosen candidates. "They won't stand behind us, but they'll hand our ideas to their chosen puppets on a string," he wrote. "That's not democracy, that's gatekeeping."

His call, as he stated it, is for change carried out peacefully and constitutionally. John Washington III called for building a new government that actually works for the people, citing the Declaration of Independence for the principle that when a government becomes destructive of the people's rights, the people can alter or abolish it.

"Let's come together and build something that serves the people, not the powerful," John Washington III wrote, framing the effort as a shared project rather than a partisan one. The remarks continue a line of questioning he has pressed through the fall: who the system serves, and what it would take for it to serve the people instead.
