No Early Voting in New York City on Monday: The One-Day Gap Before Election Day Polls Open Tuesday

Early voting in New York City ends Sunday at 5 p.m. and does not resume Monday - the next chance to vote in person is Election Day itself, Tuesday, November 3, when polls open at 6 a.m. across the five boroughs.

New York City voters who like to vote early have one deadline left, and it is not Monday. Early voting for the November 3 general election runs through Sunday, November 1, with sites open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the final day - and then the system pauses. There is no early voting on Monday, November 2; the next in-person voting is Election Day itself.

Election Day polls in New York City open Tuesday at 6 a.m. and close at 9 p.m. One practical trap rides with the switch: a voter's early voting site can differ from their Election Day poll site, so the Board of Elections directs voters to check their assigned site at findmypollsite.vote.nyc before Tuesday morning rather than walking to the site they used in October.

The city's ballot is a full one - the general election contests plus the five charter amendment questions on the back of the ballot that this station explained on Saturday. Nationally, the early vote has already set the midterm pace: Reuters reported more than 49 million Americans had cast early ballots by the final weekend, a record for a midterm election, according to the University of Florida's Election Lab.

For voters who miss Sunday's 5 p.m. close, Monday is a planning day, not a voting day: confirm the Election Day site, read the ballot questions, and set the alarm for Tuesday - polls are open for fifteen hours, and the morning lines are the ones the plan can beat.
