Monday Morning Transit Reset: The Weekend A and C Reroutes End — Then 4 Trains Go Dark Late Nights All Week
The first commute of November runs on two clocks: a normal Monday morning restored, and then, every night this week, no 4 trains between Grand Central and Brooklyn — with 3 trains sent to Brooklyn to cover the stops.

Monday morning gives the subway back its usual shape. The long weekend's planned reroutes — Manhattan-bound A trains running via the F line from Jay Street-MetroTech to West 4th Street, with no Manhattan-bound service at High Street, and C trains rerouted via the F in both directions between Jay Street and 34th Street-Herald Square — run from late Friday night to early Monday morning, and then they end. Marathon Monday's commute, including the trip to the medal pavilion, runs on the regular map.
The week's real change starts when the day ends. On late nights all week — Monday morning, November 2 through Friday evening, November 6, in the MTA's planned service changes — 4 train service is suspended in both directions between Grand Central-42nd Street in Manhattan and Utica Avenue-New Lots Avenue in Brooklyn. The Lexington Avenue line's Brooklyn half goes dark five nights running for the work window.
The cover plan is a train that is normally asleep. The 3 train, which does not usually serve Brooklyn late at night, will run from Manhattan into Brooklyn serving all the 4 train's Brooklyn stops — so the stops keep service, on a different bullet. Riders headed for the East Side of Manhattan instead are pointed to the N and R trains. Anyone whose late-night trip crosses between Manhattan and Brooklyn should expect the transfer to be part of the trip, every night this week.
Two cautions ride with this file. These are the planned changes as published; the live feed owns the night itself, and a Monday-morning check of MTA alerts is the habit that survives contact with the real railway. And the pattern is not finished after Friday: the J and M lines' weekend suspensions between Myrtle Avenue and Manhattan for the Marcy Avenue switch replacement continue on their remaining fall weekends, each running from early Saturday to Sunday night. November's subway is a month of checking first.
